DAY 12

My first public holiday in Hong Kong. A showerless weather prediction. Boy, am I excited!!!!!! :)

Its Buddha's Birthday here, and I celebrate it in my weird style!! ;)

Slept late last night, got up late in the morning. Switched on the net, spoke with my parents and bro. Got off the net and lazed around for a while. Watched TV for a while and then realised that I had to wash a few clothes. So did that and had my breakfast - an assorted meal of cereals with milk nad biscuits and Strawberry jam filled cake! Ooh, how I love to make you jealous!! :P

Still feeling lazy but finally I got ready by 12 and went out. It was really humid and sweaty!! :( And worst, my digicam's battery was rather low and I had just gotten started out. So I packed for the while and returned back to my base. Charged the cam's battery for about two hours, logged onto the net and read a mail that put me into a shock for a while and it suddenly felt that the whole day was spoiled. But. And that's a real big But!! But, life's not the same anymore. I make the choices now. ;) So, I decide that it's time for some fun. At 3, after a stupid lunch I was out on the roads again. Determined to have an adventure, I leave the road and climb down stairs (probably the longest stretch of stairs I have seen in Hong Kong). Well there were steps leading upwards as well, but climbing down is easier!;)
Before you jump to too many conclusions, my plan was to reach the Tram station and then upto the Peak via the tram. So I climbed and climbed (down) and reached the station comfortably. Got a money-scheme (whatever that means) to view the Madame Tussaud's look alike at the Peak. Took the scheme, got my tram ride for free and the tram ride was really exhilarating especially when you standing and the tram goes upwards at an angle of 70 degrees. Well, that's quite close to going vertical. And at that point, the view of the city was something which is engraved in the mind forever. You gotta experience it to know. The thrill just can't be vicarious.
Up the hills, to the Peak, off we went in the beautiful tram.
At the Peak, a new world awaited. The height over a high rise city was mindblowing. And the view was marvellous. But wait, the Madame Tussaud's museum was great too. Pierce Brosnan welcomes you with his Bond attitude ;) and then u enter the museum with a welcome by none other than Jackie Chan. It couldn't get better than this. Inside you have an exuberant display of real looking wax statues of celebrities (though I didn't know most :P).
There are also the statues of political leaders and Madame Tussaud herself. Well, the display was worth the amount they charged for it. Tiger Wood's and Mohammad Ali looked so realistic, that I had to actually touch them. But as much as the skin looks real, it feels awkward.
Outside the museum, is a wonderful mall. Great smelling food but on the expensive side.
I headed to the viewing terrace and it was a stunning scene. One could get lost in the view for hours together, but then all alone it isn't the best place to be. One would miss a partner in the adventure for sure. ;)
All over the terrace and views in all the directions. For the first time, the 88 storey IFC 2 looks small!! ;)
I stay on for a whopping six hours determined to capture the city in the glowing lights as night approaches. I succeed pretty much and a beautifully lit night city gleams before my eyes.
Now time for adventure!! Am gonna, go back to my room walking. That's rite. Am over 88 storey's high up on a hill and I plan to trek to my room which is some place lost in the building ridden city!!
I start and am already lost. Thankfully there's some help and am on some track. The track forks up into two and I most certainly choose the right one. Ohh, the right one was the one on the right hand. Though it turns out to be authentically wrong in the end, when I land up on a new street. But I don't give up easily. I struggle on the paths, begging for directions. Right, left, up and down. I have moved in the directions and now my legs are aching and finally. Pheww, finally I find another fork in the road!! ;)
But I do recognize the fork. I know which road leads to my destination and in a couple of minutes I am back in the room to conclude my day of adventure for the Kid still lost in Hong Kong!!

Another pause!!

It's been a while and posting was suddenly seeming a chore. I hate chores!! ;) The lazy guy I am. But then another U turn has brought me to a land where I'd love to belong to.
Some special people appreciated the effort and it suddenly seems worthwhile again!! The chore is out and fun is in! :)

So where was I? Yeah!! The boring wednesday got over and came over a Thursday which was quite a DAY!! :)

DAY 8, DAY 9, DAY 10 and DAY 11

Okay, so much to post about, but the times seem to have changed!!

Yes, they have!!

When life's balanced on a double edged sword,
When mind's off to thinking hard,
A flood gate gives way,
The mind hasn't much to say.

A decision remains pending,
One which the mind for long has been fending.
Something clicks hard, and clicks really well,
You just know that there is nothing more to tell.

Words lose their meaning and emotions their faith,
Some thoughts are like gold, worth their weight.
Darkness may sometimes be,
But there's always a light to help you see.

The heart finally speaks out,
And clears all doubt.
The mind is cleansed and raring to go,
You decide to just go with the flow.

Life just took a U-turn and am on the lookout to see where am I headed next!!

DAY 7

So much, yet it seems so little. An adventure in Hong Kong, though you'll figure out my meaning of adventure soon!! :P
Got up to find the world washed by rain, and then wondered why doesn't the Hong Kong observatory ever get their predictions wrong. It seemed as a perfect start to a boring day.
But the rain stopped and I got ready to leave. I had to see plenty of places, but as soon as I wore my shoes, the rain was at it again.
But, when it paused for a moment, I was out on the roads and onto a bus. My first City bus ride in HK and I didn't know that they charge a flat fee. So I bugged the driver about my destination and he'd say was go back and sit.
Finally, at the Central Metro station, I am lost again, 'cause I can't figure where the station is. But not for long. At the station, I move onto elevators one after another, till I land right before the train that would take me to Mong Kok. Interesting place, atleast the name!! ;)
Got myself a digicam with quite a few accessories and it felt good after all the haggling I had done and the time I had spent.
And then went to a place, where there were plenty of indians, pakistanis, bangladeshis and I understand you get the idea. Btw, this place is called Tsim Sha Tsui (TST).
The Metro rides were awesome. I haven't used Metro's in Delhi as yet, so this was a kinda first and I had a great time, until I landed back at the Central station.
Headed out of the wrong exit and came out in the middle of nowhere. I had no clue in which part of the city I was in and in my ecstacy for adventure, I had lost my bearings totally. Couldn't get back to the metro either.

So now I was certainly a kid LOST in Hong Kong. Or almost that. Initially, it was fun to search here and there, but then it started pouring and all the fun started dissolving.
But the wierd kid that I am, I had this whim of going back to the room in the city bus. So I would go here and go there and land where I started.
An important suggestion: Don't try to test the fact that you actually go in circles when you are lost!! ;)
One and a half hours soaked to the skin, I finally found the bus stop where the bus to my room came!! Pheww. Mission successful. Atleast I felt so!! :P
Back at the room, had a bath and an interesting lunch of Bhindi and bread with a fellow intern and then proceeded to tamper with my new prized possession- the Sony Cybershot DSC T100!! :)

But there wasn't any subject to take a pic of! :( It was very dark outside so no buildings were properly visible and my room looked a little untidy to have been captured on a pic. ;)

So you can check the album at http://picasaweb.google.com/vineesh1/MyFirstAttemptsAtPhotography. And ciya later.

DAY 6

An unusual day!!

Yeah, that's how it was!! Slept late, woke up an umpteen number of times during the night, yet got up at the earliest during the whole of this week and felt like I could take on Yokozuna!! Ohh, that maybe a tad too heavy for me, but never mind!!

But I gotta say that too many things on my mind, now aren't impairing it, but somehow granting me better vision. Never mind, 'cause life's like that!!

Had a kewl breakfast, and please don't make a stupid face at this. First, get yourself an induction cooker and stay away from your mom's reach and then make a breakfast. If you do a good job of filling yourself, only THEN think of abhoring my breakfast. Well it was bread and cheese again!! ;) Also had apple juice with crunchy aloe vera pieces, though only the glass in which I drank it was the crunchy thing!! And yeah, I also had a banana.
Caught my bus on time, reached office in the same style as I do, but something was different. Don't worry, there's no suspense to this, 'cause I haven't figured it out as yet. And even if I do, why should you know???? :P

So at the office, did some work, had the coke duo I have made a point to have ;), sent a zillion mails and felt great except the closing part. I don't know, why the last few hours become so painful. It's really horrible to bear the last few hours after enjoying through the entire day. And yeah, I had my ever favourite biryani. The meal was great and more so 'cause I had company. I hate to eat alone, though I actually don't like to share my meals!! How mean can I ever get??? :P

The clouds get so low and dark all of a sudden, that they smear their gray on the mood as well. All the plans of going out on the weekend seem to just have gotten drenched and now, I am seriously tired of the office.

Btw, I forgot to tell about the repeated torture to my ear drums!! The tall building, however fantastic it maybe has lifts that travel real fast and when you are in them, you can feel the aeroplane effect at its best!! ;)

Back to the apartment by bus and I decide to head to the Park n Shop to just get a little change for myself. Yeah, I am bored with the bread and cheese, so got myself peanut butter. Gosh!! It's gonna make me real fat. Huh!! As if that matters! :P

And at the apartment, I get a cool Security Device from HSBC, which is supposed to aid my online safety. Well, I don't wish to comment on that!! :-|

And then the net. No wonder today is unusual. The MTNL phenomenon of net crashing whenever, it felt like, seems to have been transferred to Hong Kong by some mysterious forces!!
The hi speed broadband I have here, crashed and crashed again. And then a third and a fourth time while I was chatting back home. And a few moments back it completed its double hat trick!!

And now am really missing something!! Oh yeah, the chinks. For the first time, I can clearly differentiate between the chinese people. Some have a flat face and some have an even more flatter face and some not so flat faces!! ;)
Oh its real fun to remember their names too.

Oh sugar, another mega long post!! :( I don't know gotten to me!!

DAY 5

It has been a while since I have woken up, but it seems as if I have just been to the end of the universe and back.
Somehow, something shifted and somewhere, something stirred. I guess I am hitting the wrong keys all over again.

Yeah, I got up all groggy, but not quite late. Got ready, had my current favourite meal of bread and cheese and a banana, since all the bananas I got are turning black. I guess they don't like the cold weather in the refrigerator.
Though I was up and running on time, I just managed to catch the morning bus!!
The fun ride ends at the office stop, and I wonder what shall the day bring to me next.

Reach upto my desk and within an hour, a kid with no work becomes a kid drowned in work, of which there is no sense to be made. Why does life love me so much?? It couldn't bear to see me happy. But I had my regular coke sessions ;) and a good chicken salad lunch too. The salad or whatever it was, was quite heavy and filling.

Btw, a health tip which I saw on my flight was this. And its from BBC so it has some credibility too. Here it goes. To prevent yourself from snacking, have meals or snacks of higher protein content than carb content. For the same number of calories, protein tends to keep the filled feeling going for longer. The longer you feel satiated, the longer you'd stay away from snacking and the easier it is to keep fit.

Though this didn't work much, coz I was as hungry as ...... forget the simile. I was quite hungry and hence had my fav meal again, though this time with tea. And yeah, while ironing my clothes, I saw a portion of some stupid movie on Star Movies but it had some real deep dialogues. Will discuss them sometime on my other blog, when I have fathomed them sufficiently.

Finally, the bug has chilled out and my writing has resumed. You are reading a serious product of quality time put to creative use!! :P

I hope against hope that sleep comes to me soon, to put me out of misery!

DAY 4

A new day and a new beginning and good breakfast of skimmed milk cheese slices and bread! :D

Off to office, though missd the bus, so took a taxi. And had a good lunch with the other IIT mates here, which was expensive by all standards, but it was real good fun! My first meal in HK which I really enjoyed and got a lot of gyaan too.

Back in office, little to do. Rather I did very little work and had plenty of coke!! ;) Btw, coke is damn cheap here! :) Cheaper than water!! :D
So, you can understand! ;)

Then back to my room and then I just don't know how time flew, with me just talking back home and.............

Slept a little earlier with ever diminishing hope of getting up earlier. Btw, the bed is pretty comfy and with the AC going, you would really not wanna get out of bed to goto work! ;)

Somehow, something is bugging me, but I don't have a clue to what it is and not even why it is.
Never mind. Life's like that.

DAY 3

Wow!! The second day at work and I get up mega late! Well I am late by HK standards, not by Indian standards. Why? 'Cause 8:15 am HKT= 5:45 am IST. ;) Now you can understand!! :P

Made it in time, but no breakfast today!! Mind it, its been two meals I have skipped now!! If you know me a bit, you know how important food is for me. :P

I get down to work (whether that was work or not is a major question) and imagine eating a good lunch all the time. When it comes to lunch time, I realize I need to open a bank account, so I goto the closest HSBC centre.

Account is opened, money is deposited, I get some cash, I get myself an Octopus card and head back to office. I am quite late and I am still hungry!! No lunch for me today!!

Three straight meals skipped. Pheww!! I was surprised that I was still able to shout at the top of my voice!! ;)

Back at my room, I head out to buy salt, which I had forgotten to buy on my first visit to "Park N Shop"- that's the super market here. And when I am back, I go on a cooking spree. I burn two slices of bread on the induction cooker and my omelette turns black on one side while its just cooked on the other end.
Cursing the induction cooker, I bite into my super grilled egg to find it tastes real good!! :)
Well, skipping three meals does have its benefits!! ;)
And I did eat plenty more, or did I?? Come over and check for yourself :P

A new Realization! ;)

I just realized that it wasn't the plethora of thoughts churning my mind, but rather the ennui of life that was the issue. With that sorted out, thoughts are pretty forthcoming!! :)

DAY 2

The purpose for which I am so far away from home comes alive!

Ecstasy and joy yet anxiety and fear!! Wasn't surprised though 'cause this happens to my life every now and then!! ;)

Got up on time and left for my office.

My office: Phewwwww!! U already saw it in the pic above!! :)
Reached the 52nd Floor. But it wasn't a piece of cake to go up there. The lift system is kinda funny. U go upto a certain floor and then change the lifts to goto different levels. Fine. So I reach the 52nd Floor, report at the Reception Area, request my HR to be called up and head to the waiting zone.

The view was marvellous!! It was awesome. The pic above is the view of the building from outside. Don't worry I'll have the inner view up soon ( i.e. if they allow me to click a few pictures). It was a sight which just can't be forgotten. It took me a while to absorb it all in.

Then it was my first day at internship!! :)
Din't have much to do, except garnering numerous passwords and logins, but nevertheless it was fun.

Out in the evening and I didn't know how to get back to my room. I had planned my journey to the office, I forgot to plan the return trip!! ;)

Got back to the room, called home over Skype (ohh, I am so much in love with the internet.)

Watched a little of the TV that I have in my room and I didn't like it much. So ironed my clothes for the next day and yeah I skipped my dinner for the effort of making it!! ;)

No one could be lazier than me!! :D

Its pretty painful to write daily!!! :(

Writing daily, with an umpteen number of thoughts in your mind, is really destructive!!

But just like the cycle of high tides and low tides, thoughts keep on coming and going!!

:) So now back to my usual self, coz my mind feels lighter after talking a lot!! ;)

DAY 1

The ill fated day of separation arrives!! But astoundingly the adieu is not tearful!!
Probably boarding an international flight for the first time all alone is a thrilling experience!! ;)
The Mobile Phone helps keep in touch with the most loved ones, till 15 mins before takeoff. For once, I do change my view of the mobile phone being a nuisance!!
The location despite being in the economy class, feels classy. A Personal TV with headset makes the journey fun. Fun??? Naah. The real fun part was when the plane flew through the cotton clouds. Touching a max altitude of 11752m and outside temperature falling to -22 degrees Celsius added to the thrill.
The ear drum was perhaps the most pained throughout the journey. The turns of the plane along with the dives for landing strained a much tired membrane. Though my brain, which is not a much larger membrane was also nearing its end!
Passing over Dhaka was much the same as passing over Calcutta. After all, I can't differentiate much on the basis of cloud cover!!;)
Hong Kong airport was an interesting experience in itslf!! A veryyyyyyy long airport and then numerous escalators and then a metro, just to get to the luggage collection area!! Phew!!
Airport is the worst place to exchange currency, but I had to, so I did it. Took a Metro ticket and was headed to the Hong Kong Central.
The metro ride was awesome as we passed real tall buildings. Buildings with so many flats, such that each flat just looked like a matchbox. And the city is basically a concrete jungle, though it doesn't seem that gloomy with its carefully planted trees.
Finally, a taxi ride brought me to my station of solitary confinement! :((
The room is great, but it makes me wish for once, that I had some one to share this room with!! Are you coming????? ;)

DAY 0

A peaceful living disrupted by a call for Internships. Followed by a shock at being selected in the first interview!! Still stunned but another jolt - an internship at Hong Kong. JUST IMAGINE!!
Well, if you thought that this was like a fairy tale, lemme tell you that this nightmare is now a reality. And why a nightmare? Ask a kid, who stayed away from his parents in a hostel to run back to them and never be away from them again!!
A reluctant kid torn apart by the eagerness to go and the pain of going away.
Options seem to disappear, when one needs them the most!!
